A bespoke project started from scratch and overseen by the Fitrite team, we were tasked with installing access ramps and uPVC decking for a client suffering from mobility issues.

The Problem
The client had no prior decking or structure within their existing garden, therefore this project was a complete transformation from start to finish. As the space had not previously been utilised before, many areas were left overgrown and in a state of disrepair. Though the grounds and condition proved difficult to contend with initially, following some expert planning and execution, the terrain was good to go!
Access constraints and inadequate features meant that our client had never previously been able to get into her garden. Due to her disability and the lack of wheelchair access, the existing garden was impossible to enter, even during the summer months. This limited her ability to enjoy the large space, leaving the client a spacious area brimming with potential, but very little to do with it.
The Transformation
This project unfolded over two weeks, with immediate action taken to clear and prepare the garden for its new features. Key steps included:
- Clearing and Levelling: The team swiftly cleared the overgrown garden, making way for the crucial step of levelling the ground. This ensured a solid foundation for the upcoming installations, particularly the access ramps.
- Planning and Execution: With careful planning, the layout was designed to accommodate the client’s needs, focusing on accessibility and ease of use.
The Outcome
Our efforts culminated in a space that restored the client’s independence and opened up new possibilities for enjoyment:
- Accessibility: The installation of a large decking area, complete with protective railings and balustrades, provided safe and easy access. The key addition of access ramps made the garden fully wheelchair accessible, transforming how the client interacted with her outdoor space.
- Relaxation Area: A covered seating area was introduced, creating a perfect setting for the client to socialise with family and friends. This space was not just about access; it was about creating moments of joy, freedom, and social interaction.

Conclusion
In just two weeks, this comprehensive garden makeover achieved more than aesthetic enhancement; it gave the client the gift of independence and the joy of utilising her garden to its full potential. This project stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful, accessible design in transforming lives.
