The Client Brief
Both homeowners worked from home for part of the week and had reached the point where sharing a spare bedroom office was affecting concentration and family space. They wanted a separate, professional working environment with enough room for two desks, storage and occasional client video calls, but they did not want a large building to dominate their modest rear garden. The brief therefore focused on a compact room with a clean contemporary appearance, strong natural light and genuine year-round comfort.
The Design Challenge
Space efficiency was the central issue. The room needed to feel generous inside while keeping the external footprint controlled and retaining lawn and planting. The building also had to be suitable for regular winter use, so insulation, heating, ventilation and reliable electrics were fundamental rather than optional extras.

The representative project uses Fitrite’s Cumulus model, positioned as the smallest entry-level garden room in the range. A 4 m x 3 m footprint provides enough working space for two desk positions while remaining proportionate to the garden. The specification follows Fitrite’s steel structural frame approach with insulated construction and contemporary cladding. Large glazed doors bring daylight deep into the room and create a direct visual connection with the garden. Heating, ventilation and electrics are incorporated so the space functions as a proper office throughout the year rather than a seasonal outbuilding.
